London South Bank University ( LSBU ) is a public university in Elephant and Castle , London . It is based in the London Borough of Southwark , near the South Bank of the River Thames, from which it takes its name. It was Founded in 1892 as the Borough Polytechnic Institute. It achieved university status in 1992. The university has 17,125 students and 1,700 staff. The academic staff is made up of the Professors, Assistant Professors, lecturers, Assistant Lecturers and Instructors. The school has won many awards and laureates. Its lecturers are also winners of many noble prizes. In November 2016, the university was named the Entrepreneurial University of the Year at the Times Higher Education Awards . In the inaugural 2017 Teaching Excellence Framework, London South Bank University was awarded a silver rating. LSBU has been awarded Silver for teaching excellence under the UK Government’s Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).

London South Bank University has two library buildings. The major one being The Perry Library on Southwark Campus which holds items for all LSBU courses, and The Havering Campus Library which holds items for health-related courses. They have a range of study environments for individual and group learning, course materials, online information resources, as well as over 230,000 books and DVDs. They have enough academic Librarians who are on hand to provide support for effective researching.
The Perry Library on Southwark Campus also provides free computer access for all students, as well as printing, scanning and photocopying facilities. Also, they have Wi-Fi access, bookable group rooms, and laptop computers for loan. Large format printing is available in the Perry Library. Libraries on the Southwark and Havering campuses provide LSBU students with access to a wide range of books, journal articles and other specialist materials they will need to complete their studies, E-resources including over 18,000 full-text journals can be accessed off-campus.
Due to the convenient access to the library both on and off campus, students enjoy learning and share their testimonies. There are also leisure activities and organizations available for the students on campus. This give students room to explore and enjoy their leisure. Only students who meet up with the admission requirements are often considered for admission. All academic and non- academic requirements should be met by intending students.
